MAKARION ESTIN MALLON DIDONAI H LAMBANEIN

It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Has anyone else run across the background to this
expression. I read once in a commentary (can't
remember which one) that this was an ancient Greek or
Roman proverb. In its original meaning the idea was
basically that is was more blessed to give "than to
hoard." (As in: It's more blessed to give than to
hoard wealth for one's personal and selfish gain.)

Can anyone give support to this?
