In which contexts can it be understood as "hold out"? Any examples?
In 4 of its 5 NT occurrences, it can be translated by "(keenly) observe". In
the fifth it means "to stay". (I suppose the underlying concept is fixing
something - e.g. one's eyes or life - on something.)
