I was doing the following translation exercise from Shep 98:2 NUN DE hUPO AGGELOU BLEPEIS, DIA TOU AUTOU MEN PNEUMATOS.
I assume that Shep means Shepherd of Hermas.
I found an online version at http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/shepherd.html
I went to check my work and to see the context but this site skipped from chapter 97 to 99.
first I translated this as; "but now you see by an angel, because he is of a spirit (spiritual)" For this to be correct I would have expected TON AUTON instead of TOU AUTOU.
Now I came up with; "but now you see by an angel, through the same spirit". It still seems like a strange sentence but I do not have any idea about the context.
Any thoughts?
Thank you,
Bert de Haan
