Hello all. I am new to this site and feel really green so If I post something that has been seen before or has been discussed before please be patient with me.
In regards to Septuagint text, you can find an excellent FREE program at: http://www.e-sword.net that has all sorts of Greek and Hebrew text. You can also download the 1550 Stephanus @: http://www.christianhospitality.org/ . The text is REALLY small so you have to look hard to see it under "resources". I just finished my 2nd semester Greek and we used this text to print out and write our translation under the text. It has some textual variance but nothing that changes the meaning of the text.
I have been lurking for a week or two and was interested in the question about the equivalence of studying Greek on your own. I studied for a year on my own before I started classes. I am glad I did it, I feel sorry for those who attempted to take the classes without any preparation, but I found that there is NOTHING like taking it with a class who are struggling with you and under a teacher that loves Greek. Am I correct in what I understood that the gospels were written on a kindergarten lever for a native speaker and the most complex Greek would be around 4-5th grade level stuff for the day? I recognize that very few people probably wrote Greek.
