Info for the interested:
I learned that the current CD editions of Zondervan's
New International Dictionary of Old Testament Theology
& Exegesis (NIDOTTE) and New International Dictionary
of New Testament Theology (NIDNTT) are no longer being
made because new editions that use the Pradis
interface (which has greater search capabilities as
well as interaction with other Pradis-interface
modules and software) are forthcoming this October.
(There are Mac editions, too.)
Zondervan informed me that owners of the current
(i.e., old) versions can upgrade to the new versions
for $25 each -- a considerable savings, since the new
ones will sell for anywhere from $80 to $100+,
depending on where you buy them.
Zondervan at one time put out a "Zondervan Theological
Dictionaries" CD that had both NIDOTTE and NIDNTT on
it for a retail price of $259. This, too, is being
discontinued. I found and purchased a closeout copy of
this combined CD for 50% off the already-discounted
price of $119.99 at Mardel Bookstore (their only
remaining copy) -- i.e., for $60.00. Hence, this
e-mail.
Even though I own both these sets in hardcopy, the
search capabilities of the CD edition are extremely
nice (and fast!), and they're linked to the included
NIV text. You can have multiple windows open,
including both dictionaries as well as the NIV text --
clicking on a word opens the dictionary article, and
clicking on the accompanying Goodrick-Kohlenberger
number opens a window with all the Biblical verses
containing that word.
If these books on CD interest you, you might be able
to save a lot of money overall by searching now for
any existing copies of the current (old) CD editions.
If you purchase either or both of them (or the
combined CD), you can of course then upgrade to the
new editions (if you want the enhanced features) in
October for only $25 for each dictionary.
