Dear Tony,
Wevers in his Notes on the Greek Text of Exodus p. 84 has this to say:
"According to MT Jochabad was the DDH of Amram, i.e. his agnate aunt.
This, however, contravened the law concerning incest in Lev 18:12, and
Exod led the way in changing it to an agnate cousin. This
interpretation was followed by TarP Pesh as well as Vulg: patruelem."
By 'Exod' Wevers means the Greek translator. It is, however, equally
possible that the translator had a Hebrew source different from MT.
That MT has the older reading seems likely.
