Dear wilson,

>According to rsv, niv, etc., hH AGAPH TOU QEOU
>in 1 Jn 2:5 had been translated into "love for
>God" instead of "love of God". I would like to
>ask the reason why, i.e. the principles behind.
>Also, the flow of judgment, i.e. how we consider
>"for" instead of "of". Thanks a lot.

HH: Here are three suggestive verses:

1John 5:3 This is love for God: to obey his
commands. And his commands are not burdensome,

HH: 1 John 5:3 uses the same phrase hH AGAPH TOU QEOU.

John 14:15 ¶ "If you love me, you will obey what I command.
John 14:21 Whoever has my commands and obeys
them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me
will be loved by my Father, and I too will love
him and show myself to him."

				Yours,
				Harold Holmyard
