Hello All,

I think this is piggybacking on a point Carl made about basic morphology.

Something that my fourth year Greek Prof did that helped me immensely with
my vocab and understanding of the language was to make us learn a bunch of
word stems. We worked out of "Reading Greek" by Cambridge University Press.
It contained a list of common stems, and it gave their range of glosses.

That, paired with a thorough understanding of how prepositions (make sure
you hit common ones and not so common ones) work when they are tacked onto a
word was a personal boon to me. It effectively allows you to slice and dice
a word when you come across it and generally have a good idea of what it
means. I find myself often reading the NT or LXX (or other Greek Secular
Greek Lit) and coming to a word and being able to have a good feel for what
it means....most times, when I look up the word I'm either right on the
money or pretty darn close. It has, on the whole, made my reading much more
enjoyable.

Hope this helps.
