I would do a study on EIS hO and determine the
distribution of usages. I have no idea how this phrase
generally functions semantically. If as a Purpose
Clause, for example, then the idea looks like it would
be a passive sense. If Result Clause, I would see a
middle sense. And of course it may function other than
Purpose or Result; those just came to mind. If the
distribution between these two usages, by the way,
were fairly even, then I would look at the voices of
the near-by verbals here. Since the verbals here are
actives, I would go with Result Clause and give it an
active/middle sense. While you're checking the other
usages, keep an eye on the near-by verbals and whether
or not an agent is given or implied. Cases where
agency is given, do not consider those in your
determination of constructs like these where no agent
is present.
