"think" in English when reading, but more times than I
care to admit, that's what I do.

Iver, my question still stands, but obviously my
example was entirely at odds with my question. How
about this:

hOS ESTIN ARCH, PRWTOTOKOS EK TWN NEKRWN...

The NET Bible has here:

"the firstborn from among the dead..."

Are you saying that at the deep/semantic level, EK TWN
NEKRWN will not directly qualify PRWTOTOKOS but would
qualify/modify an implied verb, thereby putting it
into a predicate relation to the nominal word/phrase?

And semantically, this is shortened for:

"the firstborn [raised] from the dead"
