A similar understanding obtains in some Advaitan scriptures where
"patience" (Sanskrit, *titiksha*) connotes not just "bearing with" but also
"bearing up," as in bearing up an offering to an altar -- or even bearing
up the altar itself.
Might "bearing up affliction" as an offering have some meaning with respect
to HUPOMONH?
Just a thought.
