Dear Mitch,
>hOTI hO QEOS FWS ESTIN KAI SKOTIA EN AUTWi OUK ESTIN

HH: I guess it is logic in context that leads me to conclude that the
topic is God. The fact that there is not darkness in light goes
without saying. So the second clause would seem to be a direct
statement about God. Also I'm used to that from the Bible
translations I've always read. John is proclaiming a message that he
has heard from God and is proclaiming to his addressees (1 John
1:5a). So that might include that there was no darkness in God. God
might communicate such a message. The idea that there is no darkness
in light does really rise to the level of a revelation.
Yours,
Harold Holmyard
