David:

There must be some statistical work done for the GNT
to determine "default" word order (anyone know of such
a study?), perhaps by author. This really should not
be a debatable topic. Statistics should settle this
one.

But suppose an author's word order in his/her
sentences typically follow this sequence:
 verb+modifiers/subject+modifiers/object+modifiers.

If the author then puts the object+modifiers BEFORE
the verb+modifiers, in this case, putting the
object+modifiers toward the FRONT (left) of the
sentence, then he/she is FRONTING. Since it is out of
his/her default or normal word order pattern, some
linguists conclude that this denotes PROMINENCE or
EMPHASIS.

I think Mitch's question was how can an author intend
to emphasize a word by FRONTING it if he does it too
frequently. If he does it too frequently, one then
must take that into consideration when calculating
this author's NORMAL word order. (His normal word
order now appears to include this FRONTING.)
