Hi Ron:
I searched the GNT, LXX, Apostolic Fathers, and the books of the
Pseudepigrapha at my disposal (limited to the 21 books currently
offered by Accordance). I found only 2 occurrences outside of the one
in Rev 18.3:
2 Kings 19.28 ...DIA TO ORGISQHNAI SE EP' EME KAI TO STRHNOS SOU ANEBH
EN TOIS WSIN MOU...
Ben 9.1 ...PORNEUSETE GAR PORNEIAN SODOMWN, KAI APOLEISQE hEWS BRACU,
KAI ANANEWSESQE EN GUNAIXI STRHNOUS...
I think the sense in 2 Kings 19.28 is clearly different from that in
Rev 18.3. LEH-2 has the glosses "insolence, arrogance." I think the
sense in Ben 9.1 is the same as that in Rev 18.3 (something like "loose
sexual behavior"), except that in Rev 18.3 metaphorical fornication is
in view. I don't think 3 examples are a large enough sample to provide
a "breadth of meaning" for the word. Perhaps those with TLG can be of
more help.
