Hi everyone, just joined the list.
I am sure this is in someone's FAQ list.
I am wanting to learn Biblical Greek so I thought I would ask which
books people recommend and why. I am mostly a self learner so I prefer
reading books instead of going into a classroom setting.
I decided to learn it to further my understanding of the NT (and for the
challenge).
In my research so far I have run across a pretty wide range of
recommendations. I figured this list would have a much more specific
audience on the subject (and thus more specific recommendations).
Beginner Books:
One book that seems to be very popular is "Basics of Biblical Greek
Grammar" by William D. Mounce.
"Learn to Read New Testament Greek" by David Alan Black and "New
Testament Greek for Beginners" by Machen were also mentioned.
Just recently someone mentioned "Learn New Testament Greek" by John Dobson.
Also mentioned were a couple audio CD's by Jonathan T. Pennington.
Readings in the Greek New Testament and New Testament Greek Vocabulary.
At any rate, there seems to be a pretty wide range of recommendations so
I need a little guidance. I work in the technical industry and I am
very accustomed to reading very technical books to learn certain subject
matter.
Oh, someone else mentioned that I may want to look into learning Attic
Greek first...I don't currently have plans on reading anything other
than NT greek, however, if the best way to go is to learn Attic Greek
first I don't have a problem going that route. They mentioned Athenaze.
I haven't looked into the intermediate and advanced level books yet but
a list of those after the beginner books would be appreciated too.
Thanks,
Brian
