It seems though that it is the 8-case system which has largely been
"discredited" and is going into disuse. My understanding is that it
was never popular outside a small circle of Baptists that followed the
tradition of A.T. Robertson. The 5-case system is the one more widely
accepted.

I've read 7 or 8 introductory grammar books, and I think Clayton Croy's
A Primer of Biblical Greek is among the best for a "deductive
approach". For an "inductive" approach, the 3rd edition of John
Dobson's "Learn New Testment Greek" which just came out in April this
year looks very very interesting (I'm planning to use it to teach a
Greek class at church next month).
But I'm no scholar, and these are just my unscholarly opinions. ;-)
