I agree, but not completely. What I think Mitch may be
addressing is how Porter has done just what you say is
pretty intelligible. To take a Temporal based verbal
system that works remarkable well and consistent, and
then to not modify it but rather completely eliminate
it, would be somewhat analogous to taking all
perfectives and interpreting time as imperfectives. If
Porter can do it with tense, why can't someone come
along and do the same thing with aspect?
