I think the difference may be minimal, in this case, but I have always taken them as instrumental participles specifying the action of MAQHTEUSATE. They nonetheless bear an imperatival sense because the action they specify is itself expressed imperatively. What does Wallace suggest would be the difference (I have Wallace on the home computer, but not here).
