I think it is worth considering the possibility that EK LUPHS refers
back to 7:8-10. Of course,
many would dismiss this sugestion out of hand, because they believe
9:1-15 belongs to a
different letter than 7:8-10; but many scholars now believe 2 Cor to be
a literary unity. If that is
so, then, the sense might be, 'I don't want you to be stung by my letter
into giving more than you
would otherwise have given. Think it through, and decide what you want
to give.'
