The answer to the question about the "best original greek text" to use 
depends on what you wish to do.  I think you will find a great deal of help 
in reading the introduction to B. M. Metzger's A Textual Commentary on the 
Greek New Testament, where he discusses the history of the transmission of 
the text and then provides a commentary on variant readings.
