B-Greek,

I thought I'd pass on some advice to those learning Greek that are
on this list:

At the University of Chicago Donald J. Mastronarde's /Introduction
to Attic Greek/ is the standard textbook for learning ancient Greek. I
used it in the class I took at the UofC, and found it to be extremely
effective. Mastronarde throws no punches and gives in-depth grammar
from the beginning--I found this approach to be much more effective than
the immersion technique in which grammar is not stressed at first.

In addition to the text itself, which includes exercises at the end
of each short chapter (an answer key may also be purchased that provides
the answers to these exercises; I heartily recommend the key for those
self-learners out there and those wishing extra practice), Mastronarde
provides an excellent website that provides many tutorials covering a
wide variety of topics. I found the tutorials covering the difficult
accent rules to be very useful. The website also includes a drill page
which allows you to practice all of the vocabulary and verb forms
included in the text--like virtual flash-cards.

If you're looking to teach yourself Greek, you really can't go wrong
with either the text or the website. Even if you don't buy the book, go
check out the FREE website, found here:

Cheers,

Jason Broander
