I was working too quickly in my initial post and accepted James'
suggestion that the retention of the accent made sense without thinking
further about it. Unless I, too, am forgetting something or never
learned something, you are right, Mark; the monosyllabic enclitic
following a paroxytone should still lose its accent.
I'm curious now about what the fuller text is that James is citing, but
unless James wants to pursue the matter further, I guess we'll have to
switch our curiosity off and go back to minding our own business. And at
this time in the academic year, the Lord knows there's plenty of it to
mind. :-)
