> I remember (and still have somewhere) an article
from NOVUM TESTAMENTUM or some such
journal in which the author argues that Romans 1:26-27
is a condemnation of anal or oral
intercourse (whether male with male or male with
female), rather than of same-sex intercourse,
I think because it says that the males "likewise"
(hOMOIWS) did that which was "against
nature". He cited from relevant contemporary Greek
literature. He also concluded that this
passage consequently did not condemn female-female sex
(i.e., lesbianism), pointing out that
the OT doesn't condemn female-female sex, either. This
may or may not have a bearing on our
> understanding of ARSENOKOITHS.
I found it: THE PRACTICES OF ROMANS 1:26: HOMOSEXUAL
OR HETEROSEXUAL? by James E. Miller, Madison, WI Novum
Testamentum XXXVI, pp. 1-11.
Concluding sentence: "There is little reason to read
Romans 1:26 as a reference to female homosexuality and
strong reason to understand Paul's comments as
rejection of some or all unnatural (non-coital)
heterosexual intercourse, the type of intercourse used
in verse 27."
