I don't know of such a particular book, but "Dictionary of Latin and Greek
Origins" presents English words built on Latin and Greek roots in a readable
and informative way. The definition of each root is given with a history of
its development and various usage. Example sentences show the roots in
action and an index is given to help the reader locate a particular English
word.
If you're interested, here's the pertinent info: Bob and Maxine Moore,
Dictionary of Latin and Greek Origins (Barnes and Noble Books: New York,
2000). ISBN: 0-7607-2082-7
