James,
I have found with Mounce's book that it is most helpful to go through two or
three chapters before doing the excercises for the first of the series you
are doing.
For example, read, study, and memorize what is necessary for 6, then do that
for 7, review 6, then do that for 8, then review 6 and 7, THEN do the
excercises for 6, and DEFINITELY use the CD-ROM materials, especially the
lectures. (Also, download Ginosko Greek for an excellent flashcard program
for the PC... Better than the one that comes with the book.)
Then when I do start chapter 9, I review chapter 7 and 8, then do the
excercises for 7. Admittedly, this approach means you might take longer to
learn it, but for me, I am learning it MUCH better this way. I'm in no hurry
to learn it, I'm more interested in learning it right and looking "ahead"
has helped me a lot. I also do the excercises for each chapter a couple of
times, for good measure.
I'm on chapter 23-4-5 of Mounce and have found this approach to help a lot.
I've been slowed down by a nutty work schedule this year, but that is all
changing, finally.
Hope you're having as much fun with this as I am. One last thing... I can't
recommend enough that you read all the excellent postings on this list. As
time goes by you'll understand more and more of them, and when you ask an
elementary question, you get a respectful answer from someone who knows a
lot more than you, has bunches of letters and stuff after his or her name,
and still treats you like a human being!
