[B-Greek] Was SKUBALON a swear/vulgar word?

I think the question - at least the question for me - is whether or not SKUBALON / SKUBALA
has the same rhetorical / social effect as our word "sh!t," which has been proposed in the past
here as a modern-day equivalent of SKUBALON - as opposed to the milder "refuse," "dung," or
even "crap" (which, like "sucks," has lost much of its original vulgarness or shock value). I.e.,
would a modern-English Bible that translated SKUBALA in Phil. 3:8 as "sh!t" be a correct and
proper equivalent translation - or would it be a case of the translator pushing the envelope and
in fact be more shocking to our ears and eyes than SKUBALA would have been to Paul's
audience?
