The Byz (Mt 16:13) reads: TINA ME LEGOUSIN OI ANQRWPOI EINAI TON UION
TOU ANQRWPOU, the ME being added to the NA text, and the translation
changing to something like, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man,
am?" or, "Who do men say that I am? The Son of Man?" And this clause
gave ancient interpreters much to talk about.
Also, IMO translating indirect clauses using EINAI into English as "to
be" infinitival clauses rarely does justice to contemporary English
expression. We almost never say, "He said himself to be happy."
Instead we almost always say, "He said that he was happy." We should
use contemporary English expressions to express Greek clauses.
