Has anyone actually gone through all the NT examples and counted how
many of the 3r person imperatives are actually/rhetorically directed
at 2nd persons? Note my posting on Third Person Imperatives, where I
show that most of the 3rd person singular imperatives are really
directed to 2nd persons. My favorite example is Mt 6:3 hORATE MHDES
GINWSKETW. (see [to it], [let] no one know!). If most examples of the
3rd person imperative are rhetorically directed to the 2nd person,
perhaps it should become the rule when we discuss the 3rd person
imperative. Just a thought.
