Thanks to those who took the time to respond, even if the nature of the response was other than what I was soliciting. Of course I did not intend the math I described in my initial post to become the duty of the reader; I was merely describing how I would go about generating a on-year plan of relatively equal-length readings. What the reader will have is not the math but simply a list of readings based on that math. So the reader will not have to worry about the math; that's my job.
Within the the post I acknowledged the desirability of break points corresponding to major thought divisions; insisting on pericope units would certainly be one option, and I appreciate the suggestion. But people will differ over whether they would most value the reading of whole pericopes or readings of consistent length. Why is there such a tendency toward a "one-size-fits-all" mentality that is unable to recognize potential merit to an approach other than one's own? I think what is likely to emerge from my work are several plans: one based on pericopes, one maximizing consistency of length within reason, and one aiming for consistency of time required, with difficult passages being shorter than easier ones.
Why reinvent the wheel? That's not at all what I perceive myself doing. Why NOT provide a useful variety of wheels? I didn't expect to find an argument of this sort on my hands. One would think that anything reasonable that would encourage people to read the GNT consistently would meet with appreciation on this list.
Since the plan Justin Buol mentioned is a 5-year plan, and nobody mentioned a 1-year plan quite like I envision, I will assume that none is currently available (or else I would indeed be reinventing the wheel), will proceed as described and, Lord willing, will make the outcome available to any who may want it without forcing it upon any who may not find it helpful.
Again I thank those who took the time to respond.
