O DEINA EGRAPSEN
>Is there even a Bible that is all Greek (Septuagint and NT)? That
>is something I would probably be interested in long term. I don't
>have any immediate plans to study Hebrew.>
Several issues:
1. For LXX-GNT, from Eric Weiss last month on this list,:
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church
13555 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, Texas, 75240-5412
Phone: 972.991.1166. If you would like to request a specific item,
contact Erika Zanders, ezanders at ticnet.com
2. separate volumes are nice because you can open more than one at the same
time. UBS Rahlfs LXX and NA27 are almost the same size and carry nicely, to
these I would add a Horev/Breuer Hebrew Bible. It is smaller and lighter
than the BHS. The three together are a formidable hand span and you wouldn't
want them bound together. When I feel energetic I even carry the little
Schmoller GNT concordance which is the same size as NA27.
3. on ignoring Hebrew for the immediate future-
IOU' IOU' !
OUK OI~DAS TI' LE'GEIS.
DIA` TI' ANAGINW'SKEIS THN KAINH`N DIAQH'KHN?
OUK OI~DAS O'TI RABBOUNEI TOIS MATHTAI~S AUTOU~
KAQ HME'RAN ANE'GINWSKE TOUS EBRAIKOU`S GEGRAMME'NOUS?
POU~ EURH'SEIS O'TA EIS TO AKOU'EIN?
"H KALH` GH" OI~DEN O'TI "TO EUREI~N EKATOSTEU'OUSAN KRIQH`N
(GENESIS 26:12)" QAUMA'SION ESTI`N KAI E'RGON OURA'NION,
ALLA` ANAKAI~ON THS EBRAIKH~S GRAFH~S.
XWRI`S TWN EBRAIKW~N GEGRAMME'NWN DY'SKOLON ESTI`N EUREI~N O'TA.
Discussing the Hebrew Bible was engaging on multilevels
in the first century, as it is now. It would seem to me
that every reader of the GNT would work towards fluently
controlling the Hebrew Bible. It is very doable,
OUK EN TW OURANW~ A'NW ESTI'N, but it requires setting a goal
and walking down the path less traveled.
4. And Carl may write you to let you know that all persons
named X need to adopt a second name.
O DEI~NA NOEI'TW "Let Mr. X be-mindful".
