[B-Greek] Act 27:14 TUFWNIKOS

The Oxford English Dictionary cites six English sources between 1588 and
1674 that use the spelling derived from the Persian/Arabic word (ad
loc.). The first English source that uses the Chinese spelling of the
word is in 1699 (ad loc.). Thus it appears the English word most likely
came from Persian/Arabic, perhaps Greek, and probably not Chinese
according to our extant English sources.

As for the Greek word that occurs in the biblical text, perhaps the word
is connected to Persian/Arabic (but then the difference in spelling
would need to be taken into account). But since Hesiod uses the word,
it might be difficult to ascertain the precise etymology.

Yours,
Elliot Poe
