I'm guessing that you are English-speaking although you probably know German as well since you are currently there. I would therefore suggest that you get a copy of BDAG (Baur, Danker, Arndt & Gingrich, _A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and other Early Christian Literature_, 3rd ed.) and two intermediate or advanced grammars. GGBB (Dan Wallace, _Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics_) is quite popular. While I sometimes disagree with him (probably at my own peril), and he sometimes seems to overdistinguish uses of cases (particularly the genitive), it isn't bad. The standard for NT Greek is BDF (Blass, DeBrunner, Funk, _A Greek Grammar of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature) -- note the close resemblance in title to the lexicon. It can be a bit of a tough go. I would also recommend that you get Smyth _Greek Grammar_. While Smyth is oriented to classical Greek, you will nevertheless find it to be invaluable. Regarding interlinears, I hold up
the cross before you to ward off this evil (perhaps some garlic too).

Subject: [B-Greek] ?`s - PLEASE HELP!

Can you explain to me how I easily respond to a thread that is of interest to me?

My other questions are beginning ones as well:

I have taken one year of NT Greek and want to proceed on my own. I have:

  Mounce`s grammar
Greek - English Lexicon for Christian Literature
  Nestle-Aland 26th Greek NT

I am currently in Germany and have discovered a linguistic language key for the Greek NT that I am interested in. Apparently it has also been expanded into an exegetical work - Cleon L. Rogers? I do not have any respect for interlinears - is this in essence an interlinear and is it available in English or only a German translation?

Finally.....what good are word studies anyway if one must know the context as well as the grammatical structure to accurately derive useful meaning from the word and its associated text? I am speaking of sources that help with word study like Vines, Strongs, etc. What good are they?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

PS Just some thoughts and constructive criticism.......the ntgreek webpage needs some flash and the fonts and their format are not easy to read. I had a bit of a headache after I read the page of suggested sources for beginning students of NT Greek.
