Wayne,
I have been thinking this over for a while and I wonder if your
statement "There is no relationship to Transformational Grammar"
might be a wee bit strong. If you mean by this that the methods and
concepts employed in Semantic Structure Analysis have come a long way
from "early Chomskyian writings (1957, 1964)" then I would see no
problem with that. However, any Bible translation procedure which
takes the "surface structure" and reduces it to a set of propositions
looks suspiciously like E.A. Nida's adaptation of Transformational
Grammar. So there would appear to be at least some sort of genetic
relationship between Transformational Grammar and Semantic Structure
Analysis.
