HKRIBWSEN PAR' AUTWN TON CRONON TOU FAINOMENOU ASTEROS
"he carefully determined from them the time period of the star's visibility"

Carl W. Conrad et al,
Sorry for adding confusion to this discussion. I just thought it
worthwhile
to check ATR's comment, not that he translated TON CRONON TOU FAINOMENOU
ASTEROS "the age of the star's appearing." I assume that Herod found
out
from the Magi the star first appeared two years earlier according to verse
16.
I personally favor the NAB "the time of the star's appearing." Are there
any objections to this rendering? Perhaps Mt 2:7 has been beaten to
death!!!
Carl W. Conrad, thanks for reminding me in a kind manner to be more precise
in the future in my terse comments!
