I'd vote for "bookmark" though you might simply call it a "ribbon" or "marker ribbon." Is it important that we call it by the proper name (probably known only to publishers)?

  Hi,

I can't think of a more erudite crowd to ask:

What is the proper name of that little satin ribbon attached to the book
spine and used for a bookmark?

(I hope it's not, simply, bookmark.)

Thanks!
