Is “LEGITIMATE” an optional translation of "DIKAIOS" instead of just and
righteous? Why? Because both “legitimate” and “DIKAIOS” have origins
that relate to legality. Second, the modern use of “legitimate” more
strongly communicates the idea of “status,” which is important in the
biblical use of “DIKAIOS.” And finally “legitimate” is one word in
English which carries a range of meaning analogous to the one word in
Greek. By not breaking the one word “DIKAIOS” up into several English
words it might be easier to see the subtleties taught about “the
righteous” or “the just”, as well as the over all importance of “the
legitimate,” as a central theme in God’s great work.
