Nancy Hill,
Unless your son is willing to sit down and memorize lots of vocabulary
lists
and word morphemes, (is he really willing to do that?), then get a
Greek English Interlinear Translation of your choice. Most pure Greek
NTs or ones with
a parallel English column cost more than an Interlinear (well over 40
dollars).
Many Greek scholars on this list
falsely assume that if one wants to read Greek, then that person will
automatically sit down
do all the grinding grunt work...that is NOT TRUE! I can only offer you
the easy way which to the
scholars is no way at all, but remember, a half loaf of bread is better
than no bread at all.
If your son is truly disciplined and dedicated to memorize all
those vocabulary words and all those word morphemes, then you need to
buy him 3 things:
1. A plain Greek New Testament or one with a parallel English side
column
2. A simple Greek Grammar book
3. A Greek English Lexicon
This will cost you well over 40 dollars so you will have to do some
serious
inquiry with your son and find out if he is willing to do the grinding
grunt work to thoroughly learn
NT Greek. If he is not willing to grind it out, but he still wants to
know something,
then just buy him a Greek English Interlinear.

Subject: [B-Greek] What NT Bible do you recommend for a newcomer?
Hi there...
My son is a homeschooled high school senior who
is just starting to study the ancient biblical
versions of the Bible. He is interested in both
the Old Testament Hebrew and the New Testament
Greek.
Unfortunately, our search for a Bible in those
languages is confusing. A search on amazon.com
yields lots of different choices, but we don't
know which one would be best. I'd like to find
something affordable (I'm thinking $40).
I'm hoping that you might have a recommendation
for a Bible that has both languages or one that
is the New Testament Greek by itself (we have
been able to find lots of versions of the Old
Testament in Hebrew so that is not a problem).
If you were just starting out and had zero
knowledge of ancient Greek, which NT Bible would
you get?
Thanks very much for your help.

P.S. He'd also love to connect with other local
scholars who are studying this material.
