Yes, and everything you read in a history book is to a large extent
scholarly guess work, and in theology books, and every other book you read.
But when based on sound assumptions, and the work of other people who have
based their work on sound assumptions, it's surprising how often the "guess
work" turns out to be true. How would you suggest we study Greek in order
to remove this "guess work"?? There is no inspired, inerrant and infallible
lexicon, nor is there ever likely to be one.

Hi All!
Well there's no denying that BDAG, for example, gives at least some of the
sources from which they derive the meaning of the words. But doesn't this
involve to a large extent just guess work? Scholarly guess work to be sure,
but guess work nevertheless?
Best Regards,
