>I would get Wallace and Smyth. Wallace is a syntax book - not a
grammar - but it is full of good info. I generally use it as a
reference and have not read all the way through. Smyth (I think) is
the best reference grammar. I have Smyth, Robertson, BDF,
Moulton/Turner, Gulick, Jannaris, McKay and others - but I have used
(as a reference grammar) Smyth probably more than the others put
together. Robertson seems more topical - pages and pages on the
infinitive and its origins for example. Smyth is exceptionally good
if you want to know why a given verb have a funny-looking aorist or
why certain stem changes occur. BDF comparatively is harder to read I
think. >
I am in England for a couple of months and had to choose what to
bring/carry. From all the above I took Goodwin. Re-checking irregular
forms when composing is important. Goodwin? Goodwin's not in the list.
It is smaller than Smyth and I find the tables slightly faster.
Goodwin is more than an adequate description of ancient Greek, though
Smyth is slightly more complete. However, if your store has Smyth in
stock, then get it. That is the only other one of the list that I
considered.
