Hi there Curtis,
I'd take a look at www.LibraryThing.com. It's a great site. It's free
for the first 200 books and then after that it costs either $10 a year
or $20 for a lifetime membership for unlimited books. Some companies and
churches are using LibraryThing to catalog their libraries as well.
There are also many librarians who are using it for their personal
collections as well as to showcase collections in their institutions.
The site allows you to enter ISBN's and then look up publication
information from a number of universities, the Library of Congress and
Amazon.com. They've even begun working with book swapping companies (but
you need not get involved with that if you don't want to).
One of the nice things about the program is that it applies Library of
Congress subject headings to each book, but it also allows the user to
"tag" each book however she/he wants. This means that you have an easy
way of finding which books you own on the subjects you care about.
Take a look at my library on LibraryThing:

I am looking for a tool, maybe some of you can help with from your
experience.
I want a software to catalog my personal library of books. What I'd
really like is a freeware for PC that I can just enter ISBNs into,
then it would look up the ISBN on the net to enter in the rest of the
book's information for me. It should preferably be able to check out
and check in books that I have loaned to friends, and be able to export
its database in different formats.
It'd be neat if it could also handle DVD collections or that sort of
thing but not required. Barcode scanner support would also be neat,
again not required.
I would also be fine with a CGI web solution running on my Linux web
server in PHP, Perl, C, or whatever. Something like a Wordpress plugin
would be alright too.
Does anybody know softwares like this? Thanks in advance.
Bless the Name
