If you take the pastorals to be Pauline (I don't) and if you at the same time conclude that MH PAROINON refers to the drinking of wine in any quantity with any frequency, you would encounter a problem with reconciling this with the admonition in 1 Tim 5.23.
MHKETI hUDROPOTEI, ALLA OINWi OLIGWi XRW DIA TON STOMAXON KAI TAS PUKNAS SOU ASQENEIAS.
The admonition MH hUDROPOTEI here seems to be an admonition to not engage in an overly ascetic life-style. As BDAG puts it "a party-pooper."
Aside from any attempts to reconcile various passages in the Bible, you would have difficulty with the history of the term's usage in Greek literature. BDAG note the use of the term in Lysius, Menander, Diogenes Laertius and Ludian. It refers to overindulgence. Remember the famous Greek axiom MHDEN AGAN.
My favorite quotation on the subject is Ps 104.14-15 (English version given)
14 Thou dost cause the grass to grow for the cattle,
and plants for man to cultivate,
that he may bring forth food from the earth,
15 and wine to gladden the heart of man, oil to make his face shine,
and bread to strengthen man's heart.

If you'll allow a less /scholarly,/ but surely no less /controversial/
question: Does the term translated, "Given to wine" strictly mean one
who does, in fact, drink wine, or one who must have wine and, if the
latter, what might be the intention for the difference from (1 Tim. 3.8,
Tit.2.3) "given to much wine?"

I understand the previous try wine out in html and was received as a
blank page. Hopefully this will make the trip. Sorry for the confusion!
