Greetings all
A newbie to the list, I am currently undertaking my doctoral work on
Origen and his commentary on John;
What I am finding hard, and wondering if those with good Greek
connections (so to speak) can assist me with, is finding any works of
Origen in Greek. It may be that I live too far away from civilisation
(I am in New Zealand), but searches at my local Theological College and
on the web turn up no books I can purchase. Can anyone assist?
By the way, on "continuous and undefined aspect (Mitch Larramore)" (Vol
52, issue 21)
One problem we all face of course is that some of the authors of the NT
themselves struggled with their Greek. Origen is famously quoted as
having said that their Greek was deliberately bad so that the message
was not shown up by their eloquence (!!), but it does mean that when we
are looking to make sure we catch the flavour of points such as Mitch's
very valid one, we need to recall that (eg esp 1 - 3 John) the Greek is
at times so bad one wonders if the writer grasped this point (The "I
write..." passages in 1 John come especially to mind).
Regards to all
