[B-Greek] Definitions of Koine words in various books

(1) It doesn't really matter which English definition you
  memorize.

  (2) I like Warren Trenchard's Complete Vocacularly Guide
to the Greek New Testament, but he tends to list several
English glosses, 3-5 or more, so this will not solve your problem.

  (3) Since you've finished Mounce and are going through
graded Readers, I believe that soon you will be reading and
re-reading and re-reading the Greek NT and at that point you
will go beyond "memorizing" English glosses. There is a bit of
a Catch 22. To be able to read the Greek NT without going crazy
you have to do some grunt memorization, flash cards and such, but
once you start reading regularly you will learn the rare words by
becoming familar with the contexts. Eventually, for you I trust it
will be soon, you will go beyond trying to remember that SUMBIBAZW
means "Knit together" and "teach," and instead you will just have read
each of the seven passages in the NT where it appears about ten times.
By then you will have long forgotten what glosses you learned.

This is not to discourage you from memorizing words. Use flashcards or
a Greek concordance or work through Trenchard covering up the
English with a piece of paper. But do this WHILE reading lots of
the Greek NT (and the LXX and the Apostolic Fathers.) I know it's hard,
but it's worth it and it gets easier.

  Hi
I find this hard to make decisions on what English Definition of Koine words
in various books I'm working with in 2nd year readers when it comes to my
memorization. When I was using Mounce for 1st year this was not a problem, he
was the only book I used.
In 2nd year Graded readers, Mounce, Baugh, & Decker & others use different
English words for the Greek.
It's hard enough to learn 1, 2 or even 3 English words that can be used for
a Greek word.
Any suggestions from the group would be appreciated on what would be the
best way, that is in memorizing new words, from a 50 > to 20 frequency. I want
to not memorize more then I have to. It's hard enough as it is.
Thanks
Jim Montesano
