[B-Greek] Secret Mark

I respect the diversity of opinion on this topic, but I believe if you
look at SM closely, it speaks for itself. It either is legitimate or
some incredibly brilliant person figured out how an earlier version of
Markprobably read. I think more scholars support SM that dismiss it, and
with good reason. I also wish someone would devote the investigative
efforts the text deserves and give it a comprehensive treatment. Brown
did that, but other, non-biased voices with differing points of view
would be nice.

I note that Adela Yarbro-Collins, noted Mark scholar, considers
"Secret Mark" a fake. So do I. In Archaeology Sept. 1960 page 173
advised
readers to examine old books in old libraries for marginal notes, but
Smith
failed to tell readers if the Voss book had marginalia. Smith
failed to examine
a folder of older Mar Saba manuscript fragments--odd if he was
looking for
notable mss. Smith did not bother to publish his catalog in English,
though he
wrote it in English; odd, if cataloging were really his purpose.
Smith failed
to go to Jerusalem, where most Mar Saba mss are kept, to check if
another ms
existed by the "Secret Mark" scribe. Odd, had he thought the ms
genuine.
