[B-Greek] Eph 6:17 hO and gender agreement

Of course, in Re 5.6 the reason that hOI is used is not because PNEUMATA is considered to be personal but rather because OFQALMOS is a masc noun and the article is in agreement therewith. Likewise, Carl was correct in stating that hO is the result of attraction to hRHMA. It has nothing to do with whether it is an abstract concept. In Re 5.6 the usual rendition is "which are the Seven Spirits
" Here (Re 5.6) the English would agree with the Greek in having the relative attracted to "eyes" but it is due to the fact that "eyes" are not personal.

So, hOS is used if it is a person who is further identified or explained. hO is used when it is a
more abstract concept or a whole phrase or clause that is further explained. hA is used when several
things (not people) are referred to as a group.
When hOI is used, the verb will be in plural as in:

Luk 5:10 ...hUIOUS ZEBEDAIOU, hOI HSAN KOINWNOI
Rev 5:6 ECWN KERATA hEPTA KAI OFQALMOUS hEPTA, hOI EISIN TA hEPTA PNEUMATA TOU QEOU (...and seven
eyes who are the seven spirits of God)
