It is on the page I previously referenced for comparison, p. 97. He does not really expand on the statement, but views it as evident from his discussion of semantic difference between gen of app and gen in simple app vis-a-vis embedded equative clauses. Basically, he sees appositional/expexegetical genitives as a specific example of a larger category named by the head noun.

Yes, I see where he says this. It is in a footnote on p. 104 some 6 pages after what I noted. Save me some time looking -- does he expand on this statement elsewhere? It would seem that relegating such a rule to a footnote with no explication would not be a good practice.
