Let me apologize from the beginning, I am probably not even a middling mind,
let alone a great mind, but I do wish to make a comment on the premise that
English has all the basic grammar one needs in order to develop a working
knowledge of Greek.

In a very general sense he may be correct, but that fact is of little
practical value. If one's native language is Russian or Lithuanian, the
points of simularity with classical Greek are probably on the order of a
magnitude greater, but the amount of effort that they need to expend to
acquire mastery of Greek is probably no different from those whose native
language is Chinese or Korean, for instance.

Languages are simple, even young children speak them with fluency. Even
golf is a simple, but to master that game, as it is to master a language,
requires from most of us significant expenditure in time and effort.
