Subject: [B-Greek] EIRHNHN POIEW: Make peace, or behave peacefully?
Mt. 5:9 par. Jas. 3:18 talks about those who make peace. As I looked at the
latter, I wondered if this idiom intended to say that they make peace in the
sense of behaving in a peaceful manner, or if it intended to say that they
actively attempt to reconcile others who are in conflict or attempt to
dissuade others who are intent on breaching the peace. Eph. 2:15 has EIRHNHN
POIEW in a context that makes it clear that Christ has actively brought
about a state of peace between two parties in conflict.
I see that Josh 9:15 LXX also has EIRHNHN POIEW meaning actively making
peace, rather than just behaving peacefully.
Does anyone want to offer evidence that EIRHNHN POIEW can mean "behave
peacefully"?
