My experience (when I taught a once-a-week, 2.5 hr/class course at church(es)) was to tell
them to EXPECT TO spend one hour a day, 5 days a week (not cram into 1 or 2 days),
every single week for the 25-30 weeks or so of the class. If they failed to do that, they would
fail the class, and I told them to not even bother taking it if they wouldn't or couldn't do this.
And I said that they must as soon as possible master the alphabet and pronunciation and
practice, practice, practice by reading out loud as much as possible, because those who
don't learn to easily sight-read Greek (even if they don't know the words) would not master
the course. And my warning/prophecy was nearly 100% accurate every time I taught. I could
almost always tell the future dropouts ahead of time, and was extremely leery of those who
jumped in "full steam ahead" the first couple weeks, because they never kept it up, and
ended up not only slowing down, but dropping the class. (The fact that there was no tuition -
just materials' costs - made quitting easy.)
