TO PLOUTOS THS hAPLOTHTOS AUTWN (2 Cor. 8:2)
I'm uneasy with the surmise that hAPLOTHS means "generosity" simply because
the context seems to suggest it here (2 Cor. 8:2; cf. 9:11, 13). If it does
mean, as elsewhere, wholeheartedness, is it possible that it is PLOUTOS that
connotes generosity, and that this collocation is a Semitism along the lines
of TO PNEUMA THS hAGIWSUNHS (the Spirit of Holiness, i.e. the Holy Spirit)?
In other words, could the expression mean, "their wholehearted generosity"?
